Sunnin'

A while back, we had torrential downpours.  We're talking all-day pouring rain that flooded surrounding areas and drenched anyone who had to venture out in it, even if only for a few seconds.  The next day, everyone enjoyed soaking in the sun, including our squirrels.

Check out this guy, sunbathing on our deck:

Jason actually took this picture for me, because it was the day I had first pulled my abdominal muscle and couldn't get off the couch to come see the silly squirrel.  I thought it was funny, though, and wanted to share it with all of you.

Robot Shower, Guests

This is the third and final post about the robot shower.  To see parts 1 and 2, click here and here.

My favorite part of the day was getting to spend it with close friends and family.  I haven't seen some of these ladies in a long time, and I still didn't get to spend enough time catching up with them.  Y'all, call me for pre-baby girl dates!

Here are some shots from the day:

Rebecca, Amy, Melody, Shannon, and Amanda

Carol, Sandra, Jodi (my neighbor), and Jodi

Kristen (and Amanda)

Group shot

I even got a chance to take pictures with most everyone at the end of the shower:

No idea why they're scratching my belly...

Yes, I'm talking, but it was the best shot of the three of us

Robot Shower, Games and Gifts

To read about part one about my robot shower, click here.

Kara was in charge of games.  I didn't get a lot of pictures of them because I was playing most of the time.

List of Games:
Pictionary (with maternity and baby-related words... some quite graphic!)
Name Lilhimself (who could come up with the best/worst Self-related name... winner was "Keith Tooyo Self")
Guess the baby food flavors (I won that one, getting 7/8 correct... guess I'm ready for the baby food stage when Lilhimself is!)
Estimate the belly bump (each person used ribbon to estimate how large my bump is)
Baby gift bingo (guests wrote down guesses for gifts and put a sticker on them when I opened that type of gift)

Jodi guessing the bump... she was WAY off.  I'm not THAT BIG, Jodi!

Amanda started by wrapping the ribbon around her own waist.  I questioned her methods (something like, "Seriously, you're going to compare my belly to yours?"). Then, she wrapped the ribbon around her spread-out arms instead.

Playing Bingo

The winner!

Gifts:
I got a ton of awesome gifts, and Jodi documented nearly every one of them.  Unfortunately, I make really weird faces when opening gifts.  Here's the not-so-weird ones...

Jill tying my hair up with an orange ribbon

Getting my hand "stuck" in a kid-friendly bowl

Jodi started getting a bit creative with pictures, including posing some of the gifts on me!

Our Loot:

We're so thankful for everyone who came (tomorrow's post) and for all the wonderful stuff they gave us!

Robot Shower, Food and Decorations

My sisters threw me a rocking awesome shower on June 22nd.  So rocking awesome that I'm going to need multiple posts to do it justice!  Today is focused on the food and decorations.

Disclaimer: Several of these pictures were taken by Jodi, so I have to give her some of the credit for helping me document the day.

Jill and Kara stuck to a pool blue and lime green motif, which perfectly represented a) I'm having a boy (plus, there was no Carolina blue in sight) and b) it's a shower for me.  In case you didn't know, I'm a fan of pool blue and lime green.  They were two of the five colors in our wedding.

pool blue dresses and lime green hydrangeas... yep, definitely colors I like

The door:
Awesome.

Jodi took this picture... maybe my aunt Carol was in charge of decorating the door?

Entryway/Dining Room:
Don't you love those tissue puff balls?

The living room:
This is where we spent most of our time, and I thought looked great, especially in my blue and green living room!

Robots:
The nursery is robot-themed (there, I let the cat out of the bag), so Mom and Jodi both made little robots.

Mom's robot, made out of Popoid toys

Jodi's robot, made out of parts from the tv station

Food:
Thanks to Jill and Jodi's creativity (and a lot of inspiration from Pinterest), all of the food was robot-themed.

"Some Assembly Required" chicken salad (we used the romaine leaves as chicken salad boats)

"Nuts and Bolts" Chex Mix

"Assorted Sprockets" gear-shaped fruits

"Computer Bytes" cheeses, crackers, and meats

"Microchips" bagel chips and hummus

"Screws and Gears" rotini and wagon-wheel pasta salad

"Refueling Station" for punch (ginger ale and pineapple juice)

The Cupcakes:
From the beginning of planning, Jill and Kara said they wanted cupcakes for the shower.  Since I'm the only one who lives in Raleigh, that meant Jason and I were responsible for taste-testing all the cupcake shops in the area.  After lots of failed/lackluster locations, Jill went with Edible Art off of Hillsborough Street.  They were tasty and super adorable!

"Danger" is my Middle Name

A few weeks ago, Jason and I went to the NC Botanical Gardens in Chapel Hill.  One of our favorite features there is the carnivorous plants garden -- Venus Fly Traps, Sundews, and Pitcher Plants.

Sun dew -- bugs get stuck and the plant actually curls around the bug

When we were there, I found this guy.  Ooh, buddy, you need to be careful.  You don't know what you're hanging out on...

Danger!  Danger!

He did actually manage to make it out safely, but I wonder if he knows how close he was to becoming plant food.

Self-Portraits, Wilmington

My self portraits are a little more difficult now that I have a "real" camera, but I still manage ok:

Don't let the face fool you... he likes it.
