Sneaking a Peek...

Christmas morning was always the same around the Davenports' house.  The girls would wake up as early as Mama and Daddy would allow us (maybe 6:30?), go wake them up, and then eagerly wait in their room until all five of us were ready.

We would go into the den, where our stocking would be so full that they were resting on the couch (instead of hanging on the mantle like they were Christmas Eve).  Sure, the stuff in the stocking was great, but the anticipation to see what Santa brought us was greater.  All that stood between us and our loot were the closed doors to the living room/dining room.

Mama or Daddy would signal to us, and we would bust into the room, go over to our designated spot (we would leave pieces of paper for Santa with our names on them so he knew where to put our toys), and begin tearing through our piles, seeing what we had gotten for Christmas.  All that eagerness and anticipation disappeared as we looked at our haul.

That is... I THOUGHT that's how Christmas mornings went around our house.  Only in the past few years did I find out that before the stockings, before waking up Mama and Daddy, or their naive baby sister, Jill and Kara would sneak into the living room and LOOK AT THEIR TOYS!  What!?!  They weren't supposed to do that!  It just goes to show you that your family traditions might not be as sacred as you think they are.  You need to watch out for sneaky petes (and sneaky sisters!).

ha ha ha! That's fabulous.

Grant would wander around the tree counting his presents.

We open presents one at a time in our house... no tearing into presents, we like making "Christmas" last as long as possible.

We do that with wrapped presents (drives Jason insane, since his family all goes at the same time). Santa never wrapped our stuff.
